e:PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. What this means is that it combines a traditional engine with an electric motor and a larger, rechargeable battery. It works in various ways:
- Hybrid Mode: If the battery is empty, the e:PHEV will switch to its engine. It then operates like a standard hybrid, by blending both battery power and fuel.
- Electric Mode: Solely relies on the electric motor for a set distance, which is known as the electric range.
- Recharging: You can charge the battery by plugging it in. With Honda hybrid vehicles, the vehicle will also recharge itself using regenerative braking and deceleration.

Yes, Honda plug-in hybrids can be charged at home. You can use both a designated EV wall-box that has been professionally installed, or a standard 3-pin plug using your home’s mains. If you are using the latter method, always remember to use your vehicle’s own supplied portable, three-pin charging cable.

A Plug-in Hybrid (e:PHEV) has a larger battery than a standard hybrid. Unlike a standard hybrid that only recharges while driving, a e:PHEV can also be plugged into an external power source. This allows it to run on electric power alone for a certain length of time.
