Safety
Building on decades of groundbreaking research, Polestar 5 is outfitted with the latest safety technology. An array of sensory systems combine with preventive and protective features to safeguard the driver and nearby road users, all without compromising the authentic grand touring experience.
1 mid-range radar, 11 exterior cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. All work in parallel to monitor the Polestar 5’s surroundings while heightening the driver’s awareness. The car’s computer assesses road conditions in real time to help avoid accidents before they can happen.

Rear-view HD camera
A roof-mounted camera provides continuous rearward vision while its specially designed casing protects against water and grime.

Rear visibility
With a high resolution display of 1480×320 pixels, the rearview mirror shows more than what can be seen through a rear window. And along with the wider field of view, visibility in the dark and in rainy conditions is also vastly improved.

Designed to stay clean
The housing of the roof-mounted camera is designed to direct airflow and keep water and grime away from the lenses, ensuring the view stays unobstructed.

2-way mirror
With a press of a button, the rearview mirror can be toggled to show a live feed from behind the vehicle or the rear passengers.

SmartZone™
As Polestar 5 doesn’t need a grille, it’s replaced by the SmartZone™, containing a camera and a powerful, heated radar. It goes from breathing to seeing, allowing the car to detect other road users and potentially hazardous situations while assisting the driver in all weather and visibility conditions.
Intelligent lighting
With an advanced lighting system, Polestar 5 illuminates more of the road ahead without dazzling oncoming drivers.

Pixel LED headlights with Adaptive High Beam
The individually controlled Pixel LEDs in each lamp unit constantly adapt their beam to the surrounding traffic and light. They shade out multiple areas in front of the car with precision, ensuring optimal visibility without disturbing other drivers.

Active High Beam
To prevent dazzling other drivers, the advanced Active High Beam system automatically switches between dipped beam and high beam when detecting oncoming drivers.

Rear light bar
Polestar 5’s rear light bar is H-LED technology, a world’s first, which produces highly energy efficient light. Approaching the car initiates the light bar’s welcome or farewell sequence, revealing a glimpse into the forward thinking technology of the Grand Tourer.
Driver assistance
Safe travels and smooth driving go hand in hand. Driver assistance functions provide a sense of security without compromising the authentic driving experience. Pilot Assist only included with Launch edition.

Pilot Assist
Pilot Assist works together with Adaptive Cruise Control, monitoring the distance to the vehicle in front and the proximity to lane markings. The hands-on system supports the driver at speeds of up to 90 mph, making gentle steering adjustments to keep Polestar 5 centred in its lane.
Included with Launch edition.

Adaptive Cruise Control
Turning on Adaptive Cruise Control allows Polestar 5 to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. The driver can manually set the desired max speed using the steering wheel buttons.

Lane change assist
With Pilot Assist activated, Polestar 5 can change lanes automatically. Moving the indicator stalk fully up or down engages this function, allowing the car to safely change lanes after scanning its surroundings with its cameras, radars, and sensors.

Lane departure prevention
Lane departure prevention helps Polestar 5 from unintentionally veering into other lanes. It is active between 35 and 110 mph and will automatically correct the car’s course with small steering adjustments, vibrating the steering wheel to warn if the adjustments aren’t enough.

Blind Spot Information with Steer Assist
The rear facing cameras measure the distance of vehicles approaching Polestar 5’s blind spots and warns with a solid line on the door mirrors. This light flashes if the turn indicator is used, and the system steers the car back into its own lane if the warning is overlooked.

Road Sign Information
A car that knows the signs. The Road Sign Information system recognises and displays the speed limit and other road signs on the head-up and driver displays. It will also alert the driver if the speed limit has been exceeded or if there are speed cameras nearby.
Parking assistance
Equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers, Polestar 5 makes parking safer and easier, ensuring a confident start and end to every journey.

360° camera with 3D view
The four cameras around Polestar 5 project a bird’s-eye view of the car and its surroundings when reversing between 0-19 mph. Changing the angle, or entering single views of either the front or sides, can be done via the centre display.

Cross Traffic Alert with brake support
When reversing out of a parking spot, rear facing cameras monitor for crossing vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Polestar 5 audibly and visually warns the driver if movement is detected, and performs a full brake if necessary.

Exit assist
When pedestrians, vehicles, or other similar objects approach from the rear, Polestar 5 warns against exiting the car. This warning starts as an LED flicker on the appropriate side mirror, and escalates with audible warnings if any doors are currently opened.
Preventive safety
Safety is as much a part of Polestar's DNA as design. Preventive features ensure that Polestar 5 is a safer form of electric performance.

Front collision avoidance
If Polestar 5 calculates that it may collide with an object such as a vehicle or a pedestrian from the front, it warns the driver with audio and visual signals, and automatically brakes if the driver does not.

Rear collision avoidance
If Polestar 5 detects that a vehicle approaching from the rear is at risk of a collision, then it will rapidly flash all of its indicator lights to catch the incoming driver’s attention. If at a standstill, Polestar 5 pretensions the seat belts and engages in a full brake.

Steering intervention
Polestar 5 warns the driver against switching lanes if it detects another vehicle is about to pass from any of the driver’s blind spots. If the visual warning on the door mirror is overlooked, Polestar 5 will steer back into its own lane.

Driver monitoring system
The Driver Monitoring System tracks the driver’s eyelids, gaze, and head movement. The system makes audio and visual alerts if signs of fatigue or distraction are detected, followed by an emergency stop procedure if there’s no significant response.
Protective safety
Renowned for its high tensile strength, boron steel serves as the passive safety cage around the occupants, designed with predictable zones for enhanced protection. Optimally placed airbags and battery protection systems raise the level of protective safety for both occupants and the car’s own systems.

Frontal, side, and inner side airbag
Polestar 5’s post-impact protection system uses optimally placed airbags to shield its occupants. They work in tandem with the seatbelts and the aluminium bonded architecture to minimise the impact occupants feel during a collision.

Electronic battery protection
The instant Polestar 5 detects that the car has been in a collision, its advanced safety technology begins to take action. The battery pack’s high-voltage system is automatically disconnected from the rest of the car, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the circuitry.

Battery safety
A steel and aluminium frame surrounds the battery pack to reduce the risk of damage in the event of a collision. To further enhance safety, Polestar 5 also incorporates other protective features, reducing the chance of objects heading for the battery if the car is hit at an angle.

Direct assistance
Two buttons on the overhead console make direct calls in case of a breakdown or an accident. The Connect button reaches Polestar Assistance for events like a flat battery or a puncture. The SOS button is intended for emergency situations such as accidents. In case of a severe accident, Polestar 5 automatically calls for help.

² Preliminary range figures. Subject to final certification. Electric vehicles sold in the UK are measured against a standardized metric for range. The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) measures the range of a car travelling at an average speed of 28.8 mph in summer temperatures from a 100% to 0% state of charge. The actual range achieved under real conditions varies depending on driving behaviour and other external factors. The certified WLTP range is therefore normally not achievable in real life.
