Holden celebrates nine models in TopGear’s Top 20 Electric Cars 2025

Holden Group is leading the charge in the EV revolution with nine standout electric vehicles from our brand partners earning a place in TopGear’s definitive list of “The 20 best electric cars in 2025”.

Today’s EVs deliver outstanding performance, long ranges and competitive pricing, with running costs that leave traditional petrol and diesel cars far behind. With rapid improvements in battery technology, charging infrastructure and vehicle design, 2025 is proving to be a landmark year for electric mobility.

From fun-to-drive superminis to spacious family SUVs, Holden’s electric line-up offers something for everyone. Whether you are looking for everyday affordability, cutting-edge technology or long-distance touring comfort, Holden Group has an EV ready to impress.

Here’s a closer look at the nine models from our brand partners that have been named among the year’s very best electric cars.

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric

Small EV for style and fun

Highlights:

  • Retro design with modern tech
  • Agile and enjoyable to drive
  • Competitive range for size

The reborn Renault 5 brings a nostalgic nod to the past while delivering thoroughly modern electric performance. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for city streets, yet it offers enough range for weekend escapes. Inside, you will find a digital driver’s display and the latest infotainment system, while the crisp handling ensures the 5 is just as fun as it looks.

The R5 has a knowing silhouette, lavish external jewellery and a smart, cheery cabin. Looking at performance and range, it's right in the sweet spot, and the bi-directional charging could help subsidise your outlay. Most of all it feels consistent: as charming to drive as it is to look at and to sit in. Your first love should last.

MG4 EV

Good value electric car

Highlights:

  • Exceptional value for money
  • Sharp, modern styling
  • Generous equipment as standard

The MG4 has redefined what drivers can expect from an affordable EV. With strong performance, a well-appointed interior and class-leading range for its price, it has rightly earned praise from both customers and critics.

When you dig into what it does for the money, how high it scores on multiple levels, it’s probably the only car in the class to recommend. It’s got range, charging, equipment, zippy dynamics and now some style.

Kia EV3

Great compact electric SUV

Highlights:

  • Stylish SUV looks in a smaller package
  • Advanced driver assistance systems
  • Comfortable, versatile interior

The Kia EV3 combines SUV practicality with EV efficiency. It is packed with tech, including intelligent safety features and rapid charging capability. A perfect family car for those wanting elevated driving position and generous cabin space in a compact form.

The EV3 is just so roundly, crushingly competent. Keenly priced and promising not to depreciate like a dropped ice lolly on a beach. Easy going and comfy to drive. Right-sized for families and not too bloated to park. It’s a roundly thought-out bit of kit as a ‘car’. And it doesn’t trip up when you factor in the ‘electric’ bit – performance, strong range, and the ability to accept a speedy recharge.

Volvo EX30

Premium feel in a small EV

Highlights:

  • Scandinavian minimalism inside and out
  • Strong performance with dual-motor option
  • Sustainable materials throughout

Volvo’s EX30 proves that premium quality and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. With a calming, minimalist interior and cutting-edge safety, it’s a great choice for those who value refinement alongside electric efficiency.

The audited CO2 footprint of a base-model EX30 out of the factory is only 18 tonnes; not much more than many petrol rivals. The UK electricity it uses to drive for an 8,000-mile year emits about 0.4 tonnes of power-station CO2, where a petrol car would emit 1.8 tonnes from its exhaust. So the EX30's lifetime CO2 is about half that of a petrol.

Dacia Spring Electric

Budget EV

Highlights:

  • Unbeatable price for a new EV
  • Simple, robust design
  • Ideal for city driving

The Dacia Spring is an affordable new electric car, perfect for short commutes and urban errands. Its no-frills approach keeps costs down while still delivering the benefits of electric motoring, including zero emissions and low running costs.

The Spring’s appeal is that it’s everything that many electric cars aren’t: it’s not over-wrought or heavy-handed, it’s honest and enjoyable and manages to keep the dream of a low impact electric car alive and proves to everyone else it is possible for a battery electric vehicle to weigh largely the same as its petrol equivalent. Well done Dacia, let’s hope that where you lead, others will follow.

TopGear

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric

All-round family use

Highlights:

  • Sleek hatchback styling with SUV-like space
  • Smooth, quiet ride
  • Comprehensive standard kit

Renault’s Megane E-Tech Electric offers family-friendly practicality without sacrificing style. The spacious cabin, big boot and generous range make it ideal for school runs, commutes and longer journeys alike.

This Renault is slick to drive, so you might briefly be tempted into range-blunting speeds that negate the car's clever efficiency measures. Go sensibly though and the range compromise is enough for most. As for the non-electric parts of it, the Megane is conventionally desirable, handsome, and the cabin is well-finished and easy to use.

TopGear

Kia EV6

Good for long-distance travel

Highlights:

  • Striking coupe-SUV design
  • Ultra-fast charging capability
  • Refined, engaging drive

Kia’s EV6 remains one of the most capable long-range EVs on the road. With 800V charging technology that can take you from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes, it makes long-distance electric travel more practical than ever.

Distinctive yet unlikely to fall off a fashion cliff, rapid in a straight line. It's also spacious, quiet and a very capable cruiser, and equipped with that 800-volt architecture that makes charging station stops quick and painless.

TopGear

Polestar 2

Premium electric saloon experience

Highlights:

  • Sleek Scandinavian styling
  • Cutting-edge Google-based infotainment
  • Impressive long-range option

Polestar’s stylish saloon blends Scandinavian elegance with sporting performance. Inside, you get a tech-focused cabin and sustainable materials, while the latest battery upgrade offers exceptional range.

We love the Polestar 2 because it’s handsome, the build quality will give Audi drivers PTSD, and there’s a real sense of humility about the car. It’s been designed to work seamlessly, not to wow you with gimmicks then wind you up further down the line. Single Motor iterations make it more accessible for most too.

TopGear

Volvo EX90

Luxury electric SUV

Highlights:

  • Flagship seven-seat SUV
  • Advanced driver assistance and safety tech
  • Luxurious interior finish

As Volvo’s electric flagship, the EX90 delivers space, comfort and performance in abundance. It’s a true family luxury SUV with a conscience, thanks to its sustainable production methods and zero-emissions driving.

Smooth and silent on the road, it’s a pleasure to drive, more wieldy than you might expect for its size and weight. It’s easy to see out of, undemanding and consumes long journeys with ease and in spectacular comfort. The massage seats are some of the best we’ve ever come across. Irrelevant? Not if you’re a parent. Little luxuries help assuage the squabbling in the back. And in the EX90 little luxuries are everywhere you look.
